Just be glad it didn’t fall off the Audi.
It didn’t fall off the Audi, did it?

I certainly hope not, seeing as the Audi wasn’t there when I got back from picking up my Delicious Italian BMT Subway Sandwich(TM).

I’m thrilled to know that the joy and appeal of the BMT is trans-oceanic.

yes you’re right , the Audi shouldn’t be there , it should be in the dealer getting fixed.

It’s easily the best thing on the Lunch Deal(TM) menu, anyway. I only really experiment when I’ve saved up enough points on my loyalty card to get a free Footlong(TM).

How did it end up all of the way up there after falling off of the Audi? Isn’t that supposed to be at the back?

I’m fairly sure the Mark I TT is well past the age where people would bother to take them to the dealer for repair work. It’s independent garages all the way, these days.
(It’s probably worth noting the Halfords, among a number of other things, sells car parts.)

Nah, the original TT actually had two exhausts. One at the back, and another at the front for when the one at the back rusted off. Quite revolutionary at the time.

Yesterday I parked and found a german wheel stud, you know the kind that is like a big bolt that screws in? I was “wtf mate”.

Didn’t know that! Apparently there was also a series of relays that would automatically switch it back and forth that was tied to the same computer that controls the door lock actuators and windows so that you would know when there was a problem by being unable to unlock the driver’s side door from inside the car. Quite forward thinking, those Germans.

I found a lug nut in my parking space in front of my house. Didn’t belong to my car. I drive used cars from the dealership home every day, so who knows which one it came from?

I wish I got to change cars all the time that would be fun.

I love it, as soon as I get bored with one I just park it and take another. One of the perks of being in upper management for a dealership. The drawback is I usually drive boring cars. Whenever we get something really awesome in we usually have customers interested in it right from the get-go so it has to stay at the dealership. That and if I do take something cool it’s a sure bet I’ll be minding my own business enjoying my day off Saturday, and get a call from the sales manager saying they’ve got a customer coming in to see the car. I don’t have to bring it back to the dealership in that case, but I do have to stop what I’m doing, get all my shit out of the car, and meet one of our drivers at a nearby gas station or whatever to swap cars. Always happens right after I put gas in it too.
I normally drive each car for about a month but I’m going on 6 weeks in my current one. It’s a 2015 Mazda CX-5, the only reason I’ve held onto it so long is because it’s a stick and it’s a rare opportunity to drive something with three pedals. Though we did just get a manual trans 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer GT traded in the other day so I think I might switch to that on Friday.

Yeah that’s pretty neat. I am what you would call “a true fan of most cars” so even if most were beige I’d still being enjoying myself a lot just to get all different things. You could pop me in an 03 deville and I’d be happy as a clam haha. I didn’t even know the CX-5 came as a manual. I am also surprised it it used being a 2015.

Same here, it’s always neat driving and comparing lots of different models, and you learn some surprising things about them when you drive so many. I also am surprised by certain things I enjoy about them. Plus it’s nice to have that access to cars when I need something, I just took a Ram home last night because I needed to bring a grill to a friend.
It’s mind-boggling how many people trade in 1-2 year old cars. Usually it’s a result of bad decision making and/or buyer’s remorse but there are plenty of people who just don’t care about the colossal amount of money they’re spending and buy a new car every year.
We just had an 04 Deville traded a couple days ago, maybe I should drive that...

I am not a wealthy man, and yet I am not that poor either. I am always wondering how people afford one or two year old cars every year. Either everyone makes a lot more money that I thought or they all have some massive debt.

They usually fall into two camps.
1. They have lots of money, either pay cash for the cars or take short-term 0% financing with a substantial down payment. These people are well aware of how much money they’re losing but don’t care because they can afford it.
2. They buy a new car and spend $400 per month on it at a 5 year term. A year later they want something newer/bigger/with more features despite the fact that they’re $5000 underwater on their current car loan. After much haggling and going back and forth they get it, for $450 a month at a 6 year term. Then a year after that they get the itch again and go back to the dealership now $10,000 underwater on their car (because they’re still paying off an excess $5000 from the last one). They can’t afford what they really want but dammit they came here to buy a new car, so they end up with a newer model with slightly less features for $500 a month at a 7 year term. In none of these transactions do they ever make a down payment.
A year after that they hate the car because it doesn’t have all the features they want, so they go back to the dealership again. In addition to wanting something with more equipment they want to lower their payment because they can barely afford to spend the $500 per month. Due to the fact that their loan term is so long they haven’t paid a dime toward the principal and $10,000 of the loan is debt from previous cars, they’re now $17,000 underwater and no bank in the world will give them a loan. After weeks of shopping at a dozen different dealerships and getting the same answer every time they then proceed to tell everyone they talk to how car salesmen are the scum of the earth and the dealership ripped them off.
I wish I was kidding about this.

I see. Currently I drive an 03 rattle tin can Cavalier I paid nearly $3K cash for. I was thinking about getting on the new car bandwagon once my job is renewed for another 4 years in october, but I wanna save up at least $5K before I do that. I am gonna put $4K as the down and then use the remaining $1K as payments for a few months.
Only problem is I know I can’t afford the $500/mo right now, so I need to move with roommates I think. The place I have is too much for me all by myself. Urg. In the meantime, we continue with the rattle tin can as long as we can.

Rough estimate is $20 per $1000 financed, so if you want a $300 payment you need to finance $15,000. $200 payment, finance $10,000. This is using loan terms where you have a chance to actually pay the car off, not these astronomically long loans that have gotten so popular lately.
Coming from 8 years in the car business- buy a new car if you really want to, but from a financial standpoint very slightly used is the way to go. I plan to never buy another new car again.

Thanks!! Looks like I still have some way to go then because (on the car I looked at) it was $27K so I’d be financing about 22K. They said if I wanted a 4 year term I’d be at $540/mo. In regards to “slightly used” I think you are right, by “new”....the car I had seen was a 2012 Challenger with 33,000 kms.
Either way I will continue to build my accounts until I can get something affordable.
